[Entertainment] $50 free stuff at Costco for Executive Upgrade

I originally purchased the 2012 Entertainment Book for $28.00 + free shipping, and got a $4.90 FatWallet cash-back rebate, several weeks ago.

Currently, FatWallet is $29.99 with free shipping plus a 17.5% cash back rebate.

Tonight, I finally broke down and started thumbing through the book and stumbled on a Costco certificate to upgrade to an Executive membership.

I ordered a certificate.  I should receive it before the beginning of next year.  You simply take the certificate to the local Costco and you get upgraded on the spot.

Executive Members enjoy an annual 2% Reward on most Costco purchases, as well as additional values on member services, such as lower prices on check printing, payroll services and identity protection; an account bonus for money market and online investing accounts; free roadside assistance for vehicles covered through the auto insurance program; and extra travel benefits.

Upgrading from a gold membership directly with Costco is currently $55.

The certificate costs $50.  That is $5 off the regular price, plus you get a coupon book for “more than $50 of value.”  In essence, you get a $5 discount and $50 worth discounts and free stuff.

Here are the details:

Costco Membership Certificates • Exclusive Online-Only Offer

Join the 60 million Costco members who enjoy low warehouse prices on thousands of high-end, brand-name products and services at more than 500 locations worldwide.
Order today and receive this special offer.

Every Costco Membership Certificate comes with coupons worth more than $50, including:
• A free rotisserie chicken
• A free Kirkland Signature™ 2-lb. bag of coffee
• Free Kirkland Signature Spring or Drinking Water 35/16.9oz. bottles

Buy One Costco Membership Certificate – Join as a Gold Star Member or upgrade your Costco membership.

Buy Two Costco Membership Certificates – Join as an Executive Member, and receive an annual 2% Reward* (up to $500) on qualifying purchases at Costco and Costco.com.

Restrictions: Valid for new memberships and upgrades to Executive Membership only.
Not valid for renewal of an existing Costco membership. Costco Membership Certificates have no cash value. Costco Membership Certificates are not replaceable if lost, stolen or destroyed. Costco Membership Certificates are valid at any U.S. or Puerto Rico Costco location. Costco Membership Certificates can only be returned to the place of purchase. Offer expires June 30, 2012.

At first glance, it seems like this is a win for us.

Assuming we get $25 out of the special coupon book, leaving $25 for the upgrade, we’d need to make $1250 ($104.17/month) in purchases in a year to break even on the membership upgrade.

Since we now buy almost all of groceries at Costco and Sam’s Club, I think we will end up making good on this deal.

I am having the same problem with not being able to get the certificate, nor even getting Costco to come up on the Entertainment website. I have let a message for the Entertainment.com telling them this, and they are not responding. Today is 6/14/13.
